The Doves Bathmat is a small work of art for the bathroom floor. Created by Brooklyn-based studio Cold Picnic - founded by Phoebe Sung and Peter Buer, both with fine art backgrounds - it features a bold abstract composition of overlapping forms in creamy white, cherry red and olive green, set against a soft celery ground with a loose black brushstroke anchoring the base. It has the quality of a mid-century painting translated in textile - expressive and beautiful.

The texture is as considered as the design. Cotton yarn is tufted onto a cotton backing, with portions of the surface shorn into a super-soft shag while other areas remain as cushiony, rope-like loops — creating a piece that is as pleasing underfoot as it is to look at.
